If you've wanted the ability to send employees or customers gift cards electronically for stores like Starbucks, iTunes or Target, check it off your list. National Gift Card (NGC) recently launched an application programming interface (API) that allows mobile friendly eGift cards to be sent in real time to your recipients or pulled into your mobile app environment.
eGift cards are about as easy to use as it gets, too. Recipients simply redeem the gift by using their mobile device at retailer checkout. No muss, no fuss and, most importantly, no more plastic to lose or damage.
The API is designed to custom fit the business objectives of each NGC client. In other words, it's not a one-size fits all solution. Emailing codes directly to recipients or depositing a live code on a website or into a mobile interface for a recipient to pickup are examples of how the API can be used to meet client needs.
eGift cards are just in time to meet the rising tide of business being conducted on mobile device apps. According to a recently released study, transactions completed through mobile devices increased 59 percent in the first quarter of 2015. Now, an astounding 18 percent of all orders are "mobile transactions."
Take Starbucks, for example. About one out of six transactions are done with the Starbucks app. If your employees and customers are already accustomed to using an app to buy their favorite beverages, why not pick up the tab with an eGift card?
Ditto for iTunes users who have been scratching the grey stuff of traditional gift cards for years. Now, they can get one-stop entertainment without wrecking fingernails or digging through the couch for a stray penny.
